Windwaker formed in Wagga Wagga in 2014 before they later moved to Melbourne, Victoria in 2015.

Prior to this lineup, Liam Guinane was the bands rhythm guitarist before he announced his departure on September 9th, 2019 to focus on his other project Reside. He rejoined the lineup on September 15th, 2022 when ex-vocalist Will King also announced his departure from the band to focus on studies. Later on the 21st of September 2022, touring member Connor Robbins officially joined the band as a synth player.
Their debut LP, Love Language, was released on May 6th 2022 and was met with favourable reviews. A second unannounced album has been planned for a 2024 release.
Windwaker have played notable festivals including BIGSOUND festival in 2018, Download festival in 2019 and Knight and Day festival in 2022; As well as supporting Beartooth for their Australian tour in 2019, it was announced that Windwaker would support I Prevail on their 2022 tour.
