William Byrd (1540?-1623) was a highly prolific English composer who wrote music in a wide variety of genres, particularly keyboard music and both sacred and secular music. While his early religious music was Protestant in nature, sometime during the 1570s he converted to Catholicism and wrote music for Catholic services afterwards.
