Jack Smith known as “Whispering” Jack Smith was a baritone singer popular in the 1920s and 1930s. He began his career in 1915, singing with a quartet at a theater in the Bronx, after he worked on the radio as a pianist.
In 1925 he began making records including the hit “Me and My Shadow”.
His “whispering” style of singing was a result of a World War I injury from poison gas that kept him from singing at full volume.
