About We Were Promised Jetpacks

We Were Promised Jetpacks are a Scottish indie rock band, formed in Edinburgh in 2003. They currently consist of Adam Thompson (vocals, guitar), Michael Palmer (guitar), Sean Smith (bass), and Darren Lackie (drums). Stuart McGachan (keyboards, guitar) played with them for some time, including on their third studio album, Unravelling.

Their first two albums, These Four Walls and In the Pit of the Stomach both had a very spontaneous structure. On their third LP, the band took a much more deliberate approach, composing several iterations of a song before settling on one–something they didn’t do before. The input of McGachen on keys and producer Paul Savage also contributed to the shift in style between their earlier work and Unravelling.
