Wajdi Mouawad (born in 1968) is a Lebanese-Canadian writer, actor, and director. He is known in Canadian and French theatre for his politically engaged, moralistic theatre.[citation needed] It often revolves around family trauma, war, the betrayal of youth, and for recurring stylistic tropes, such as having his actors shout all their lines.
One of his most well known play, Incendies, has been adaptated by famous director Denis Villeneuve, for which they received massive critical acclaim.
Since April 2016, Mouawad is the director of the Théâtre national de la Colline in Paris.
