Volcano Choir was originally a collaboration of Justin Vernon (lead of Bon Iver) and the band Collections of Colonies of Bees.

Jon Mueller and Thomas Wincek are no longer part of Collections of Colonies of Bees, but remain part of Volcano Choir. Matthew Skemp was added to the band.
