Violet Night don’t just play their instruments; they use them as tools to carefully construct emotion. Hailing from Toronto, vocalist/guitarist Connor Pohl and keyboardist T.J. Rounthwaite aim to traverse soundscapes as diverse as their province’s landscapes. From the soaring heights of mountains to the tranquil beauty of a forest, the sky’s the limit with this alternative/indie duo’s sound and potential.
Debut LP Colours of You is ascending skyward on the wings of first single “North,” originally released November 2016 and a part of the rocking anthemic one-two centerpiece that also includes the darker angst of “Choir of Your Mind. Surrounding those tracks are eight others that show the duo’s ever-increasing mastery of hooks, from the somber eulogy “Lions” or aural approximation of a faintly hopeful battle with mental health “Depths,” to the acoustic-and-then-some love songs “Where We Began” and “Sparks.”
A recent headlining tour in the U.S. and countless Canadian concerts have proven Violet Night’s charisma belongs on the stage, as much as their creativity belongs in the studio. With the floodgates of possibility opened and waves already forming, be prepared to be awash in Colours of You — and Violet Night.
