A pianist and composer who lived his entire life in Philadelphia, Vincent Persichetti (1915-1987) was a highly influential teacher at Juilliard whose pupils included Philip Glass, Peter Schickele, Lowell Liebermann, Leo Brouwer, and Einojuhani Rautavaara. Over the course of his career, he incorporated neoclassicism, big band, serialism, and polytonality into his music.
