Inspired by everyday life and the vast intricacies of being human, Montreal-based artist Vikki Gilmore’s empathic insight and wisdom beyond her years resonate in her songs.
By drawing on authentic experiences, she crafts meaningful narratives that ring tenderly relatable, backed by soulful, generally acoustic instrumentation. Having developed her style as a singer-songwriter since high school, Vikki has spent the last several years connecting with her audience, notably performing in such eclectic events as POP Montreal and Mural Festival. In March 2016 she released her debut EP, Where You’re From, accompanied by crisp visuals for the singles “Empty Past” and “My Song”.
Someone, the latest EP from Vikki Gilmore, is a wistful journey away from the comforts of familiarity and back again, with stops along the way to mourn lost love.
Laden with Gilmore’s signature poignant wordplay, warm vulnerability and indie-folk soul, Gilmore’s second release pushes the boundaries of how much can be said in just five songs. Its title track envelops listeners in an intimately populated landscape of acoustic guitar and gently pulsing, understated percussion as the Montreal singer-songwriter weaves a tale of fecklessness and surrender to the universe’s enigmatic will. The title track and namesake were released as a single on July 27th followed by a whimsical music video on August 17th. Someone was released on September 7th, 2018.
Since its release, Vikki has opened for notable acts such as Ziggy Alberts, Damian McGinty, Still Corners, Reina del Cid, and Port Cities.
