Born in Thessaly and raised in Athens, Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou (1943-2022) showed an early interest in traditional Greek music but later developed an interest in jazz and rock. A composer with more than 50 albums to his credit, he is best known for his Oscar-winning score to Chariots of Fire, the theme of which reached the top of the Billboard chart.
