Born in a renovated brothel in the south of Sydney, Australia, “Up Late”, are a young five-piece band drawing influence from emo, pop, rock & rap, to create a sound all their own. Within less than 3 months of their inception, the group was named “one of the most exciting up and coming acts of 2020”. Launching in May of this year with their entry into Triple J’s DIY Supergroup competition, the group immediately shot to the top of the Triple J Unearthed charts. They scored multiple 4.5 and perfect 5 star reviews from Triple J presenters, including a 4.5 star from Triple J’s own director Richard Kingsmill.

Their debut single and music video, “Friends” was premiered by Triple J Unearthed and continued their blend of earthquake inducing bass sounds from the hip hop world, and light and delicate pop elements. Triple J Unearthed announced them as part of the coveted 5-star club and listed them as one of Triple J presenter’s top 10 favorite new acts of 2020. The song quickly grabbed the attention of Sydney based grime and heavy bass producer/DJ Moonbase who remixed the son

Up Late’s follow up single “U LEFT ME ON READ” shares similarities with artists like Joji and Post Malone, dancing between intimate verses and an anthemic sing-along chorus. The song’s instrumentation is borrowed from the aggression and drive of rock music but still sits firmly in the pop/rap world. Upon release, Pilerats named them “a break-out force of 2020” and “something special”.
