About Tyler Cohen

Tyler Cohen hails from Cleveland, Ohio. Before graduating high school, Tyler had spent a decade of his life involved in a performance-based program known as The School of Rock. Much of his ability and knowledge are deeply rooted in that program and if not for The School of Rock, Tyler would have never met long-time friend and producer, Brendan Shulman. Along his side, Brendan Shulman has a large role in creating the music. Together, they are as much of a band as any other.

It wasn’t until Tyler’s final year at the School of Rock, his Junior year of High School, that he wrote his first original song. Ironically, that song was titled ‘Seventeen’ and he wrote it on his 17th birthday. It was only the beginning of many mediocre songs to come, as Tyler would put it, before finally crafting some solid tracks for his first attempt at an album in 2016.

Tyler enlisted into the United States Army right before graduating from High School and soon found himself serving with the 7th Special Forces Group, as support personnel, in Crestview, Florida.

“It was a particularly difficult time for me mentally. To be a creative and individualistic person by nature and then conform and look/be no different than the person to my left and right, was horrible. I was truly a number in the system, not Tyler Cohen”.

The troubles and experiences he endured lead to his first album ‘From the Outside Looking In’, and the songs on that album reflected a side of Tyler that would have otherwise never seen the light of day. The setback to that album was that Tyler had absolutely no idea what he was doing with recording. Everything was trial and error. Working off of a Tascam DP-03, Tyler’s recorded audio was trash at best. At this same time, Brendan Shulman had spent his time in Nashville (post-graduation) working in a recording studio and developing his skills with production. After seeing Tyler post about the release of his album via social media, he reached out and suggested that he should help out with the recording and production of the music.

With Brendan’s knowledge and experience working with Digital Audio Workstations, primarily ProTools, this duo remastered ‘From the Outside Looking In’ and re-released it in 2017 at a higher level of quality. Still not satisfied, they then collaborated in creating the 2017 release ‘What We Want to Feel EP’. Currently, ‘From the Outside Looking In’ has been removed from all streaming platforms aside from a few songs that remain on Tyler’s SoundCloud.

Fast-forward 3 years, both Brendan and Tyler had gone through some major life changes with no music to show for it. It took a very difficult end to a 2-year relationship for Tyler to find his spark again and work on a brand new album titled ‘Welcome to Uncharted Territory’.

“From start to finish, it is a reflection of my journey through physical, emotional, and musical uncharted territory.”

Brendan and Tyler have created a decent body of work with the album and really did tap into multiple genres to appeal to many different audiences. Be it for better or for worse, it is hard to classify the sound that embodies their work. They are unapologetic to anyone who doesn’t believe in what they are creating and are continuously striving to write better tracks for those that do believe. They are motivated and it cannot be argued that their true potential has yet to be reached.
