Two Depressed Kids (TDK) are American rappers, singers, and songwriters. Originally from “Chi-Town” Chicago, TDK is a new-aged alternative rap group.
Inspired by urban culture icons that have mastered the art of diversity, including Wiz Khalifa, Green Day, and the late Mac Miller, the dynamic duo continuously look to their inspiration, genius, artist intuition and wide range spectrum to fuel their chameleon-esque alter egos. Freshly entering the hues of life, the group has a lot to say. Described as pleasantly offbeat and optimistic, the team is a new wave for hip-hop culture.
TDK’s chemistry is undeniably present across their catalog. Extending from the “techno” ‘80s, the group’s inspired melodies are effortlessly weaved through the Dirty South 808 flare. These freshmen have found ways to capture sound influences from coast-to-coast, but have also delivered a Latin timbre under a straight beat that renders their unique sound.
Writing since the age of 12, the new 1st & 15th members morphed into maturity a few years later. This season of transition has birthed a force within the group that perpetuates a message to be shared with the world. Throughout TDK’s lyrics, themes of mental health and struggle are apparent. Yet, the group has an essence of Innocence and authenticity that meets tailored perfection. Quite the duality for the newcomers. They are quoted saying “Everyone has their problems and demons. It’s universal. Whoever, where ever, there’s hope amongst hopelessness. We want our music to be that missing link of inspiration”-TDK
The group captures their audience by encapsulating time in every verse, lyric, and metaphor. There is truly a story to be told and heard. Recent articles have described the duo’s flavor by writing “They are so far evolved from the cookie-cutter script. They are a new age British Invasion, hip-hop/alternative rap esthetic framed in rockstar trim. It’s a new wave combination of intentional, textured, syncopation and spice”. Their new video Acid (view TDK’s latest video here) is purely a representation of just that.
As game-changers, the self-taught musicians are definitely up next. With nothing but time, opportunity, and talent on the horizon, the group is definitely one to watch.
