Adrian Nicholas Matthews Thaws, better known by his stage name “Tricky,” was born on January 27th, 1968 in the neighbourhood of Knowle West, Bristol, England. His musical career had its beginnings in the 80s club scene of Bristol, where he would join The Wild Bunch in ‘87, a sound system and loose collective of producers and DJs. Several members of The Wild Bunch would go on to form Massive Attack, whom Tricky would collaborate with frequently, appearing prominently on their first two albums Blue Lines (1991) and Protection (1994). After this, he would go on to pursue a solo career, releasing his critically acclaimed debut record Maxinquaye in 1995.
