hypertoxicated is a currently active alias for ToxiPlays‘ hyperpop-influenced music—however, since the publication of the Arcade Cabinet’s plurality, it was revealed that hypertoxicated music was handled mostly by Hypa of the Arcade Cabinet. hypertoxicated almost exclusively releases electronic-inspired music under the “hyperpop” label, merging virtual synthesizers with heavily glitched out, Auto-Tuned vocals and mantra-esque flows.
hypertoxicated was originally an alternative name for Toxi to write freely about LGBTQIA+, avoiding the implications of tackling such topics on her main account. This is evident in the debuting track, “lone bxy,” where she talked more openly about her gender identity for the first time:
Couple whacks from a wack hyperpoppie’ll kick you out this hierarchy
No, don’t even call me papi, man
That ain’t the gender move
Over on streaming services, the duo only share credits on Hypa’s “MISSINGNO,” the third track from the collective’s sophomore album, Level Select. Usually, the artists' discographies are mutually exclusive—it is incredibly rare for both trade names to be credited onto one track, except where it has to for distribution reasons.
The image showcasing both ToxiPlays (Julie) and hypertoxicated (Hypa)’s characters was created by frequent collaborator CofStars, and is rumored to be the cover art for an eventual collaboration.
