Antonia Christina Basilotta, known as Toni Basil, is a famous singer, actress, and dancer.
She started her music career after being signed to A&M Records in 1966 with the A and B-side singles “Breakaway”/“I’m 28”. Both singles failed to garner attraction. In 1982, Basil returned with her staple song “Mickey”, which was a cover of “Kitty” by Racey and achieved her worldwide success. It topped the charts in countries such as the US and Canada and was certified platinum by the RIAA.
Her debut album Word of Mouth was a moderate success, being certified gold by the RIAA and peaking at twenty two on the Billboard 200. It spawned a few moderate singles such as “Nobody” and “Shoppin' from A to Z”. Her final album Self-titled failed to garner any attention as it didn’t chart worldwide. It spawned the moderate hit “Over My Head”.
