Toby grew up in Los Angeles, California. He explored Jazz, Hip-Hop, Soul, Rock, R&B, Blues, Country, Latin, Classical, Afrobeat, and any interesting sounds that made their way into his ears. When he was 12 years old he heard albums from Common, Nas, Outkast, and a few others that brought together his love for music and words in a way that inspired him to begin making Hip-Hop music of his own. He finished high school that year and spent the following year abroad in Ecuador expanding his horizons musically, culturally, and individually. He was also a successful actor throughout his childhood. His upbringing, variety of experience, and unique perspective pour into a music that is deeply honest, personal, and insightful. He was part of the very successful group Inverse who achieved critical success with their projects So Far (The Collection) and So True EP. He has just released his first solo project entitled Evolutionary. It was broken into two EPs. Evolutionary EP which came out in January 2012 and Evolutionary 2 EP which came out in October 2012 . The music drips with soul, jazz, funk, latin, asian, middle eastern, and african influences. The theme of the album is growth personally, culturally, and musically. He hopes to continue challenging himself musically, lyrically, and conceptually as he moves forward in his career. He is currently working on a full length solo album entitled Free Machine.
