Thursday is an American post-hardcore band, formed in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1997.
The band comprises of Geoff Rickly (vocals), Tom Keeley (guitar, vocals), Steve Pedulla (guitar, vocals), Tim Payne (bass guitar), Andrew Everding (keyboards, vocals), and Tucker Rule (drums).
Thursday released their debut album, Waiting, in late 1999 with original guitarist Bill Henderson, who left the band in 2000 and was replaced by Steve Pedulla. The band gained popularity with the release of their second album, Full Collapse, in 2001, and released their third album and major label debut, War All the Time, in 2003, which reached number seven on the US Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. Thursday released their fourth album, A City by the Light Divided, in 2006, and two further albums, Common Existence and No Devolución, before announcing an indefinite hiatus in 2011. In a January 2013 interview, Geoff Rickly confirmed that the band had actually disbanded. In 2016, the band reunited to tour again. They performed in short strings of shows until early 2018, with no word or promise of a new album yet.
On November 8, 2019, fellow New Jersey rock band My Chemical Romance announced on Twitter that Thursday would open for them at their reunion concert on December 20th. Thursday also tweeted that, for the people who couldn’t come to the show in LA, they were playing a number of shows in 2020 and toured Japan a while after.
The band has been considered influential in the post-hardcore music scene of the 2000s and is credited as one of the key bands to popularize the darker emo sound and screaming vocals which came to prominence at the time.
The band is currently active. After further supporting My Chemical Romance on their Return tour, Thursday toured with Anthony Green and Cursive for the 21st anniversary of Full Collapse and played Festivals such as Riot Fest, When We Were Young Fest, Aftershock and Corona Capital in 2022.
They will further play, among others, at Adjacent Fest in May 2023.
Thursday currently consists of Geoff Rickly, Tom Keeley, Tim Payne, Tucker Rule, and Steve Pedulla, with Norman Brannon (Texas Is The Reason) on Guitar and Stu Richardson (No Devotion, Lostprophets) on Bass.
