Stephen Bruner (born October 19, 1984), better known by his stage name Thundercat, is a multi-genre bass player, producer, and singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California. He has released three solo albums and is perhaps most known for his work alongside producer Flying Lotus, as well as thrash metal band Suicidal Tendencies. He also notably appeared on Kendrick Lamar’s critically acclaimed March 2015 album, To Pimp a Butterfly, among other works.
He is the son of Ronald Bruner Sr., a drummer who has performed and recorded with Diana Ross, The Temptations, Randy Crawford, and Gladys Knight. He has two brothers: virtuoso drummer Ronald Bruner Jr. and musician/producer Jameel Bruner, a.k.a. Kintaro.
