Thomas James Stoneman, better known by his stage name, Thomston, was born in London but raised in New Zealand. He is currently based in Los Angeles.

He started making music at home and self-released his first EP School Night in February 2014 by uploading it to Soundcloud. Although this EP was initially intended for family and friends, it was quickly picked up by famous international music blogs such as Indie Shuffle and Pigeons & Planes.

Thomston then signed with Saiko Management, the same company who manages fellow NZ artist Lorde, and returned to the studio to create new music. The Argonaut EP was released in July 2014 and received wide critical acclaim, especially in music blogs.

He later released the Backbone EP (2015) while working on his first full-length album, Topograph, which was released in August 2016. He would revisit the album in 2021, releasing Topograph (Resurveyed), an EP reimagining some of his favorite songs from the album.

A two-EP collection, consisting of En-Route: Los Angeles and En-Route: London, was released in October 2019.
