The Red Clay Strays is a five-member country music band from South Alabama. The band consists of Brandon Coleman (lead vocals/guitar), Drew Nix (vocals/electric), Zach Rishel (electric guitar), Andrew Bishop (electric guitar) and John Hall (drums).
The band has various influences ranging from Johnny Cash, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Waylon Jennings to Southern gospel, they blur the line between country and southern rock.
According to Rolling Stone, the band emerged from the ashes of a cover band in Mobile in 2016. That initial group featured Coleman with Andrew Bishop on bass. Nix did the booking. In the fallout, the trio regrouped, bringing in drummer John Hall and guitarist Zach Rishel. In an interview for the same magazine, Brandon Coleman stated:
We’d start out playing anywhere that would take us, play people’s parties, playing covers and sprinkling originals in — more and more people kept listening and kept coming back to shows
On April 29, 2022, the band released their debut album Moment of Truth independently and later got signed with influential indie label Thirty Tigers.
