About The Pussycat Dolls

Initially working as a burlesque troupe, entrepreneur and artist, Robin Antin, founded “The Pussycat Dolls” and turned them into one of the most prominent girl bands of the 2000s. Seven girls–Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Ashley Roberts, Carmit Bachar, Jessica Sutta, Kaya Jones and Kimberly Wyatt–were signed in 2003 to Interscope Records. Their debut single “Sway” was released in 2004 to no success.

The group’s debut album PCD was released in 2005 to huge success, becoming top-five hits worldwide including in the UK Album Charts and the Billboard 200 and has sold nine million copies worldwide. It featured the group’s most popular songs such as “Don’t Cha”, “Stickwitu”, and “Beep”. “Don’t Cha” is one of the best-selling girl group songs of all time and “Stickwitu” earn the girls' a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group.

After the departure of Carmit Bachar, Doll Domination was released as their second and final album in 2008. It spawned hit singles such as “When I Grow Up” and “I Hate This Part”.

After the group embarked on Doll Domination Tour, they went on a hiatus in late 2009. To this day, The Pussycat Dolls are one of the best selling girl groups of all time, with fifty four million records worldwide and fifteen million albums sold.

Besides their global success, the girl group has faced its fair share of controversy. A previous member, Kaya Jones, likened her time and overall nature of PCD to that of a “prostitution ring”. The accusations included claims of members maintaining sexual relations with music executives, along with people like Scherzinger–based on Jones' claims–taking advantage of such situations to benefit their own career. Even though Jones spoke out, Robyn Antin hit back by branding these allegations as “disgusting, ridiculous lies”.

In 2019, a decade after each group member parted ways, lead voice Nicole Scherzinger confirmed that the girls (apart from Melody Thornton) would be returning with the respective new Instagram account for the group to indicate their comeback.
