The Potbelleez are an Irish-Australian EDM/dance-pop trio, consisting of lead vocalist Ilan Kidron and DJs Jonny Sonic & Dave Goode. Blue MC (aka Marisa Lock) was a former member of the group, who left in 2012.
The Potbelleez were originally formed in 2004 by Irish-born DJs Dave Greene (aka Dave Goode) and Jonathan Murphy (aka Jonny Sonic). Aside from a few remixes for the likes of Evermore and [Love]Tattoo, the Potbelleez didn’t release any original music until around early 2007 with their “In The Junkyard” EP, which featured vocals from future members Ilan Kidron and Blue MC. The Potbelleez' most successful and well-known single, “Don’t Hold Back” (released later that year), was a massive success both in Australia and in Europe.
The Potbelleez, now a four-piece group, released their self-titled debut album in November 2008. The album peaked at #17 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The success of that album lead them to work on a follow-up, this time with co-producers Justin Shave and Paul Mac. After a few delays, their second album, “Destination Now”, was released in May 2011. The album, which featured the hits “Hello” and “From The Music”, also peaked at #17 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
In 2012, it was announced that Blue MC had left the group to focus on her solo project. She would later go on to appear as a contestant on season 4 of The Voice of Germany. A third Potbelleez album was in the works, but aside from a couple of singles (including “Magic Number” with B.o.B), it never fully materialized.
The Potbelleez remained active and continued to release music occasionally, both with and without Ilan, up until around mid-2020.
