In 1944, after the original Carter Family group broke up, Maybelle created The Carter Sisters. This group consisted of Maybelle Carter, June Carter Cash, Helen Carter, and Anita Carter. It was renamed The Carter Family in 1960 after A.P. Carter’s death.
