The Black Mages were a progressive rock/metal band formed by Nobuo Uematsu, the composer of many of the soundtracks in the hit Final Fantasy video game series. They were active from 2003 to 2010 and produced three studio albums in that timeframe. Their focus was predominantly on playing Uematsu’s various FF compositions in a rock/metal style, which in turn made them mostly an instrumental band with very few songs featuring vocals.
They disbanded in 2010 due to scheduling conflicts between the band members and copyright issues with Square Enix, the publisher and developer of the FF series.
