Testament is a thrash metal band from Berkeley, California that was formed in 1983 under the name Legacy. The band changed their name to Testament in 1986 because Legacy was already trademarked by a jazz band.
Their first album The Legacy was released in 1987 and received critical acclaim amongst thrash fans and had them compared to Metallica.
They went on to release five albums under their original lineup, and the band has been credited as one of the leaders of the second wave of thrash metal in the late 1980s.
