About Televangel

Ian Taggart, now going by the alias Televangel, is an Electronic and Hip Hop based music producer from California, though his music has often been described as genre defying as he has dabbled with Industrial, and Post-Punk. He got his start as half of the collective Blue Sky Black Death. During his time with BSBD he went under the alias [Young God] and worked with artist such as [Rob Sonic], [Cam' Ron], [N.O.R.E], [Crooked I] and [Ill Bill] and even managed to get a feature from none other than [Gucci Mane] as well as creating remix albums using [Jean Grae’s] vocals with their production. The group BSBD has been on hiatus as of 2017.

In the hopes of reinventing himself, and to not be mistaken from the new rising producer of the name Young God he changed his moniker to go as Televangel after BSBD split.

His work is hard to compare to anything else, but the two most widely accepted comparison/influences include other genre pushing artists like God Speed You Black Emperor! who dabble in Post-Punk, Industrial, and Experimental/Noise inspired music themselves, the only other comparison to come to mind is the Blockhead whose solo working is more Electronic based while he works in collaboration with many Hip Hop artists. The fact that God Speed You Black Emperor and Blockhead makes two vastly different types of music just goes to show how varied and diverse Televangel’s music spans.

In 2018, Televangel signed to Fake Four Inc.where he released his first solo project under this name. The album is titled Anthropocene Blues that includes the single 800 Star Constellation. It was uploaded to Fake Four’s bandcamp on October 26th 2018.

He got a good start with reinventing himself when he made a remix to Blockhead’s song [Kiss The Cook] that featured legendary underground rapper Aesop Rock off the 2019 album Free Sweatshirt. A few months later Blockhead released an instrumental version of the album which included two new bonus tracks with one of those being Televangel’s remix of Kiss The Cook that included the an additional verse from Billy Woods. He has also worked with artists like Sadistik under this name on the song 8 ½ as well as others. He is still early in his career under this new moniker so not much has happened outside of his Anthropocene Blues album and these collabs but with an already fairly strong resume the future is looking good for this experimental producer
