Tasmin Archer is a British pop singer who gained international recognition for the top-charting single “Sleeping Satellite,” off her first album Great Expectations. Born in Bradford, Yorkshire, Archer began her career as a back-up singer for a local band called Dignity before eventually working behind the scenes at Flexible Response recording studio, where she met musician and long-time partner John Hughes.
Signing with EMI in 1992, her first single “Sleeping Satellite,” a wistful ode to the Space Race, charted in both the UK and America, earning her a BRIT award for Best British Breakthrough Act.
Her second album, Bloom, was released in 1996, but failed to live up to the popularity of her debut, leading Archer to take a break from the limelight before releasing her third album, ON, in 2002, through her own label Quiverdisc.
Currently Archer and Hughes work together to provide soundtracks for film and popular television series.
