About T.E.C. (Tito El Coqui)

Who is T.E.C.?
T.E.C.?

Guess it means something, right? I mean it has too. Let’s begin here: September 27, 1991, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Jorge Luis Irizarry was born. Fast forward a couple of toddler years and he finds himself in Miami, Florida, attending a preliminary Magnet school for one year, in painting and drawing classes. Then again we fast forward one year, and he is now residing in Orlando, Florida.

As years go by, Irizarry’s passions for arts start focusing on a different art form, Hip-Hop music, rapping under the name, El Coqui (given to him by a family member). In accordance to the way his life was moving, it was moving towards a destructive path that reflected on his music. Attending only a Catholic church on & off at the time, Irizarry hit rock bottom emotionally one day, cited as saying, “My life hit a new low, I was two steps away from drugs, and four steps away from breaking every law I could.”

But one day, while working with his family helping out at a non denominational Christian church, he was invited to a Youth Church camp, which he reluctantly attended. God used a Pastor, Irizarry never met before, to speak directly into his heart, using Irizarry’s love for music to grab his heart and transform his life from that point on.

As he continued to grow in his faith, Irizarry immediately used the talents he had to push for new heights in his music. Releasing The Way, The Truth, & The Life (2011) & Like Fire From Above (2011) as his first two mixtapes after he was saved, Irizarry continued to progress in his music. Then, a tragic incident happened in his life, his father, at age 51, passed away due to cancer. As devistating as it was for him & his family, Irizarry continued to have faith in God no matter the trials, and was cited by his family as: “someone with incredible faith…”. Acting as a glue to his family, he continued to put God first and continued to make music for God, no matter the trials, tribulations, or the falls he took. He released Heavenly Provisions (2011), The G.O.E. Mixtape (2012), & many more music after his father’s death.

He then continued to work on his walk with God and took a four to five month break from music, with minor appearances through songs here and there, but in August of 2012, Irizarry planned to release a project titled Progressions, but it was shelved due to lack of material and motivation after his mission trip with his youth group. On November 2012, Irizarry announced a new project with a new motivation titled Outside of Time, following the knowledge he learned on the missions trip & with constantly meeting with a bible group weekly. Releasing his first single title “Come Through” and continuing to work on music from there. He then became more active in the Hip-Hop scene in Orlando, going to more events and networking more with people in the city, becoming more of a factor at his youth group, but always saying that it was for one reason, “to give God all the glory.”.

Then came the name change, from El Coqui to T.E.C., which is an acronym for his two nicknames, Tito El Coqui. He also has stated that the acronym does stand for “To Emulate Christ”. From mid 2015 to almost mid 2016, T.E.C. was seemingly done with making music, but in September of 2015 (one month after his marriage), he released a new song titled “I’m Still Here”, announcing his return to the Hip-Hop scene and announced the shelving of his project, Outside of Time, and instead chose to release an EP titled, Mayday. He promises a new and improved sound.

T.E.C. is now currently promoting his new EP, Mayday, that dropped on May 15, 2016.

Mark 16:15 “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
