About Strapping Young Lad

Strapping Young Lad were an extreme metal band from Vancouver, Canada and were active from 1994 until 2007.

The brainchild of singer, multi instrumentalist and songwriter Devin Townsend, Strapping Young Lad paired the sonic aggression of bands like Fear Factory and Napalm Death with extensive multitracking to create a “Wall of Sound” production style that was unlike anything of the era.

Despite increasing critical success and an ever growing fanbase, Townsend (who would be diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1998) would end the band in 2007 due to his belief that the mental extremes the band required him to go to were too detrimental on his health.
