Stephen Collins Foster was an American composer who wrote over two hundred songs, many of which are well-known today (e.g. “Oh! Susanna”, “Beautiful Dreamer”, “Hard Times Come Again No More”, “Camptown Races”). He is considered the greatest songwriter of the nineteenth century and is the only person to have written two state songs, those of Florida and Kentucky.
