Startled Insects was a British instrumental electronic-jazz group.
Startled Insects began around 1983 in Bristol, England as a collective of three producers/multi-instrumentalists, Tim Norfolk, Bob Locke and Richard Grassby-Lewis.
They released their debut album, Curse of the Pheromones, in 1987 for Island.
In 1996 Richard Grassby-Lewis officially left the group. Tim Norfolk and Bob Locke continued on as simply The Insects (dropping “Startled”).
The Insects began to receive commissions to write music for documentary specials, films, TV series, and commercials.
Aside from those soundtracks, they have written, produced and played with Alison Moyet, Goldfrapp, Madonna, and Massive Attack.
