Stanisław Moniuszko

At a time when composers all over Europe were trying to forge styles of music distinct to their countries, Stanisław Moniuszko (1819-1872) instilled Polish pride through his operas, sacred music, and songs. His operas Halka, Flis, and Straszny Dwór were all major successes in his lifetime, which was cut short by a heart attack. He continues to be revered in Poland, Belarus, and Lithuania.
