Spring King is the brainchild of production virtuoso Tarek Musa who began this project by ripping out a disused bathroom in his house, setting up a drum kit and practice amp and put to task writing, recording and mixing a song each day in his ramshackle studio. Tarek was then joined by Peter Darlington, James Green and Andy Morton. Impressive and stylistically diverse tracks from these sessions followed and ‘Let’s Ride’ and ten-track demo ‘In All This Murk And Dirt’ emerged online creating an instant buzz.
Following the release of their 2016 debut ‘Tell Me If You Like To’, Spring King return in 2018 with their brand new track ‘Animal’. A breakneck-paced return to form, The song mixes the primal unpredictability of their earlier work with a renewed focus and infectious energy, and is accompanied by a mind-bending new video, directed by The Boykov Brothers. The darkly humorous clip sees the band undergoing scientific experiments, in order to give life to something monstrous…
‘Animal’ is produced once again by Spring King’s frontman and drummer Tarek Musa, who won Self Producing Artist of the Year at the 2017 Music Producers Guild Awards, following his work on their blistering debut album. Of the track, Tarek says:
“Animal takes its inspiration from our unshakable reliance on technology and how repetitive modern day existence has become. There is constant tension between human nature and technological progression: we are glued to technology, sometimes not sure how to let go, whilst simultaneously fighting the animalistic, hedonistic urge to unplug and completely lose ourselves.”
‘Tell Me If You Like To’ earned the band three BBC Radio 1 playlisted singles, saw them record a Maida Vale Session for BBC Radio 1, perform on ‘Later… with Jools Holland’, play sell-out shows and festivals across the globe and received a raft of acclaim from the likes of Observer, DIY, Uncut, Q, Kerrang!, NME and more. Earlier this year Spring King completed a tour of intimate shows across the country. The band will bring the raucous energy of these tiny shows to the larger stage later this year, as they announce their biggest ever UK tour for September, culminating in shows at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town and Manchester’s O2 Ritz.
Tarek says: “We’re so excited to get back on the road in September and do our biggest headline shows to date! We can’t wait to show you all what we’ve been working on -this feels like the culmination of everything we’ve been doing over the last few years. This is only the beginning.
