Soutjay (stylized as, “soutjay”) is an Asian-American, Kansas-based producer and vocalist (b. July 9, 2002). He currently holds over 170k total plays on his SoundCloud Page. His parents, originally from Laos, gave him the name as his middle name which roughly translates to, “lots of love,” or, “much love.” He uses the latter as his slogan and his resulting second SoundCloud page which hold unreleased or scrapped songs, MUCHLOVEPARADISE.
Soutjay has many musical influences in his life like Keshi, Aries, Blackbear, Jeremy Zucker, and Brakence, however, the most influential to his now growing music career is his older brother. He played the piano and guitar and was part of a band that covered Laos songs for local parties in the area. Seeing his brother do these things had a long lasting impression on him, resulting in Soutjay teaching himself the piano, and then later the guitar.
He has been making music since he was 13, but he didn’t get serious with it until he turned 16. He initially began with making melancholic lofi songs, but soon switched to a style based within RnB and Trap. He also frequently covers songs with them mostly averaging around 1k plays, however, he released 2 covers that have garnered a massive amount of attention; his cover’s of Keshi’s, “skeletons,” and, “right here.” Following the success of those songs, he released 2 original songs, “24hrs,” and, “sayonara,” which he deems to be some of the best songs he’s made.
