Sound Horizon is a musical group from Japan led by REVO, who is the sole regular member. The group is known for their albums that tell stories through songs that encompass different genres, which have been used for their play-like concerts called Story Concerts, along with the use of various languages in their lyrics. Their focus on story-based music has described them as a “Fantasy Band”.
Sound Horizon began as Revo’s website for distributing his musical creations in the late 90s, which include original works, as well as arrangements for music from the SNES video game Romancing Saga, and Final Fantasy. In 2001, Sound Horizon was established as an independent musical unit with their first album, Chronicle, released in Comiket 61. Their major debut began in 2004, signed under Bellwood Records, with their first major album Elysion ~Prelude to Paradise~, which includes songs from their independent era, and for their next album which is Elysion ~Paradise Fantasy Story Suite~, in order to introduce new listeners to their songs. In 2005, their main vocalist Aramary resigned, leading to Sound Horizon introducing a larger cast of musicians, actors, and narrators, with their first Maxi Single Shounen wa Tsurugi wo…, which was a tie-in for two theme songs for video games and a prelude for their next major album Roman, released through King Records.
In 2012, Sound Horizon went on hiatus to make way for Revo’s collaborative project, Linked Horizon, and returned a year later with their single Halloween to Yoru no Monogatari, now signed under Pony Canyon.
