Lindsey Jordan (born June 16, 1999), better known by her stage name Snail Mail, is an American singer-songwriter from Ellicott City, MD. She is currently based in Baltimore, MD.
Lindsey started playing guitar at 5, then she started off classically trained, did a lot of jazz guitar, and played guitar in the church band. One of her guitar teachers was Mary Timony.
She released her debut EP, Habit in 2016 on Sister Polygon Records.
She was signed to Matador Records on September 2017 and released her first full-length album, Lush on June 8, 2018.
After three years, part of which Jordan was in rehab, Snail Mail released their sophomore album Valentine on November 5th, 2021, which covers the post-tour exhaustion, heartbreak, and substance reliance that Jordan experienced after rocketing to indie fame at such a young age.
Regarding her stage name, she said:
I was in the car I remember and I don’t hear the phrase thrown around a lot by young people, so it was just one of those things that popped into my head and I thought it was cute.
Snail Mail also consists of two supporting instrumentalists: bassist Alex Bass and drummer Ray Brown.
