Samuel Anderson – a.k.a. SMUG MANG – SMUG GOD!
Smug Mang is well recognized by his unique voice – which is highly influenced by Lil Wayne.
He has worked with rappers such as: Chris Travis, Eddy Baker, Bones, Yung Simmie, $uicideboy$, Black Smurf, Xavier Wulf & Black Kray.
Samuel is from upstate New York, raised in a city called Akwesasne. It’s located right on the border between Canada and America which allows drugs to flow freely between the two countries because of no customs.
And this type of activity/life is exactly what Smug Mang claims to be living in ‘Sasne. Selling drugs, doing drugs, making money and spending money.
Smug Mang has released over 20 mixtapes/projects since he started making music back in 2013. And he has stacked up quite a library of songs with different known producers over the years. Some of them are: Zaytoven, Purpdogg, Big Los, Mr. Sisco, Curtis Heron & OCVLT.
Smug Mang’s most frequent collaborator, when it comes to beats, have to be Drxp Atxmz. His name can be seen on many different projects that Smug has put out. Smug even yells his name in a couple of songs (mostly the one’s produced by Drxp).
One of Smug Mangs first mixtapes called Smug God featured a ton of known underground artists. It was also hosted by DJ Smokey. This brought attention to the up-coming artist. And a few months later he dropped “Xans Got To Me”. It was hosted by DJ Smallz & DJ Shure Fire, which of course helped him a lot.
Xanax, Weed and Lean seems to be Samuels drugs of choice since 95% of all his songs is about atleast one of the three. They also have quite a big influence on the way he sounds aswell.
Samuel raps in a very unusual and unique voice. A voice that you either love or hate. He has his own touch and personality to his voice like everybody else. But the drugs are playing a big roll on giving it that special something.
When Smug Mang says “Lean” – he either mean one or two things. First we got; a purple colored cough syrup by the brand “Hi-Tech” or “Actavis” and they both have the same active ingredients; Codeine and Promethazine.
Then there’s “Tuss” – which is short for the brand “Tussionex”. Tussionex is a yellow cough syrup with the active ingredients Hydrocodone and Chlorpheniramine. Both Hydrocodone and Codeine are categorized as “opioids” (for refference if you don’t know much about this stuff: Oxy and Heroin are both opioids aswell).
Opioids can have loads of different effects on a user. But is most commonly used for pain relief.
From left to right: Tussionex, Actavis, Hi-Tech
Now how does this have anything to do with how Smug Mang sounds, you may wonder? Well, I’m glad you asked! Opioids, especially in higher doses, can give the user a deeper-sounding voice or more low pitched than usual. And that is one of the characteristics of Smug’s voice.
Some would say that Smug Mang sounds “drunk” most of the time. Even though he do talk about alcohol in a couple of his songs, the slurred speech is more than likely caused by the Xanax he’s popping.
Smug Mang has changed up his voice quite a bit over the years. Nowadays he sounds very much like what Lil Wayne.
Smug might’ve changed it up on purpose since that style obviously works for Wayne. And Smug has always been open about Lil Wayne being one of his main influences. Another theory is that Smug might’ve cut down on his drug use. So he now actually sound different.
So why his voice has changed might not be random.
Smug Mang has a huge library of songs. Most of them are drug themed bangers. But he has a few that is really emotional. The feeling of being a drug addict, love problems, etc.
1. My Escape
2. All I Had
3. Falling Apart
4. Smug Forever
5. Honourable mention – a wavy, relaxing song featuring Chris Travis: Flex Action

For an internet trap rapper that loves to talk about xanax, Smug Mang is as original as they come. His story is unlike any other, coming up on a Native American reservation in upstate New York, and his delivery is unmistakable. In a crowded musical lane, the Smug God is able to set himself apart.
