Jahvante Smart (born November 18, 1996 – June 30, 2018), better known by his stage name Smoke Dawg, was a Canadian rapper based in Toronto.
Known for his singles “Trap House,” “Still,” and “Don’t Lie,” Smoke was part of the Toronto-based music group, Halal Gang. It consists of fellow Toronto artists, SAFE and Puffy L'z who has opened for select dates on Drake’s Boy Meets World Tour alongside Smoke. Smoke Dawg also made music with the group, Full Circle consisting of Donnie, Jimmy Prime, and Jay Whiss along with other artists.
On June 30th, 2018 at 8:00 pm, Smoke was fatally shot. The shooting occurred outside Cube nightclub at Queen Street West and Peter Street in the Entertainment District of Toronto. He was one of the three people who were injured—another being friend and producer, Koba Prime. Both were rushed to the hospital when they were later pronounced dead.
Drake posted a picture of him with Smoke, acting as a tribute message on his Instagram story the night he was killed. He captioned;
All these gifted and blessed souls and inner lights are being extinguished lately is devastating. I wish peace would wash over our city. So much talent and so many stories we never get to see play out. Rest up Smoke.
