Nathanael Volf, professionally known as Skema Boy, is a Christian Hip-Hop artist based in Los Angeles. He was born in Chino Hills, California and soon after adopted and raised in Connecticut. Growing up, Skema struggled a lot, especially when his adoptive parents divorced and the weight of being adopted kept hitting home. Rap music became his way to press on and cope with what was going on. And when Skema Boy attended a Christian youth camp in 2015, his life changed, and he realized he needed Jesus in his life.

Skema has two slogans he uses in nearly every one of his songs, (see here for one example of the use), “It’s your boy, Skema Boy” and “This ain’t rap, this is worship”. The name “Skema” doesn’t have any meaning or main reason, it was just an old friend’s graffiti tag, which he decided to roll with. The “Boy” part does have a meaning though, being that, most superheroes have “Man” in their names (eg. Batman, Superman, Spider-Man etc.) but the sidekicks tend to have “Boy” in their names. He said on the Jesus In My Life Podcast,

If Jesus is the hero of the story, then I kind of feel like some kind of sidekick or little helper, you know?

On February 4th, 2022, Skema Boy debuted “Jesus In My Life,” the first Christian rap he ever wrote, and later that month, released “ABC (ghi),” the first Christian song in general he ever wrote. He talks about these songs and what they mean to him when he features on the Jesus In My Life Podcast. His breakthrough single, “wristwatch,” was released January 20th, 2023, and helped to build up Skema Boy’s fanbase and followers. Shortly after the song’s success, Skema Boy released his first EP, LAMB 2 G.O.A.T., which included five songs and two of which were collaborations with fellow CHH artists, one with Rexxir and another with Red Tips.

Since the beginning of 2025, Skema Boy made it clear that he was stepping up his game, here he says in the chorus for “2025,”

In 2025, we getting live, said I don’t work enough.

And saying in his outro for “GOD’S ARMY,”

We ain’t sleepin' 2025.

Over the years, Skema Boy has frequently been featured on Official Spotify Playlists, Beast Mode Christian, The Flow and The Blaze.
