Sissal Jóhanna Norðberg Niclasen (born February 13, 1995 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands), mononymously referred to as Sissal, is a Faroese singer-songwriter best known for representing Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland, with “Hallucination,” an EDM-inspired dance-pop track. According to Sissal, the song is about “meeting a person where the connection feels so real that it almost seems unreal.”
After winning the national preliminary round, the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (DMGP), she performed at several Eurovision pre-parties to promote her song. By qualifying from the second semi-final, she ended Denmark’s six-year non-qualification streak since 2019. Following Reiley, Denmark’s representative in 2023 with the song “Breaking My Heart,” she is the second Faroese artist to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, and the first to perform in the Grand Final, finishing 23rd with 47 points.
As a single mother of two daughters, she is determined to show that women can have a successful career in the pop-music industry after having children – a concept that is “rarely questioned of men.” An article about the DMGP by Wiwibloggs states that Sissal “loves big parties, the queer environment, and respects the artists who stand up and are themselves.”
I hope that people can see themselves reflected in my music and in me as a person. I want to show that you can be beautiful and healthy even if you’re not thin, and I encourage everyone to stand up for themselves and their dreams.
