Alexandra Shungudzo Govere — better known as Shungudzo — is a recording artist and songwriter born in the USA, raised in Zimbabwe and based in LA.
She was first discovered by Kerry “Krucial” Brothers in 2010, who signed her to his new label Krucial Noize along with singer-songwriter Mateo. Here she released her debut mixtape under the name Andra, titled Love is 4 Suckaz/I’m a Sucka 4 Love. She had plans to release a debut album in 2011 on the label but this never materialised and she instead went independent.
In 2016 she resurfaced as a songwriter with placements on Simco artists Little Mix and Louisa. This led to further work with Jessie Ware, Victoria Monét and The Chainsmokers.
In 2017 and 2018, while still maintaining work as a songwriter, Govere once again established herself as an artist under the name Shungudzo, appearing on tracks by Bantu, BC Unidos, Rudimental, Jonas Blue, Paul White and Oliver Heldens, as well as an artist spot on the Fifty Shades Freed OST.
