Shadrach Kabango, known as Shad is a Kenyan-born rapper of Rwandan descent who was raised in London, Ontario. He is married with one child.
Shad is a graduate of both Wilfred-Laurier University and Simon Fraser University and is best known for his 2010 album TSOL. The album was selected as the winner of the Rap Recording of the Year award at the 40th annual Juno Awards, beating Drake’s 2010 mainstream breakthrough album, Thank Me Later. He has been nominated for the Junos two other times, and has been shortlisted for Polaris Music Prize four times.
He briefly hosted the popular Canadian radio show, CBC One’s Q. He also hosted the show Hip Hop Evolution which was featured in the 2016 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, shown on HBO Canada, then being internationally released on Netflix. The series was one of the 2016 Peabody Award winners and won an International Emmy Award for Best Arts Programming in 2017. The third season was release in September 2019.
