Set It Off is an American pop-punk band hailing from Tampa, Florida. The band’s fanbase began growing when frontman Cody Carson uploaded videos of the band on YouTube. After releasing numerous EPs, they were signed by Equal Vision Records in 2011.
The band consists of frontman vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Cody Carson, guitarist Zach DeWall, and drummer Maxx Danziger.
Previously, multi-instrumentalist Dan Clermont and bassist Austin Kerr as well a few other drummers served in the group. Kerr and Clermont separately became the subject of sexual assault allegations, leading to their eventual departures.
Their first full-length effort, Cinematics, came out in July 2012. The band partnered up with the VH1 Save The Music Foundation to raise money for school music programs, donating $1 from each album sold.
The band’s sophomore album, Duality, was released in October 2014. In an interview with Alternative Press, lead singer Cody Carson said:
What [we’re] encouraging people to do with this record is just let it out. Show who you really are, and stop worrying about what everybody else is thinking, because it’s so damn liberating to just finally figure yourself out and be yourself."
Later, during June 2015, the group released Duality: Stories Unplugged—a stripped-down acoustic EP of the songs featured on Duality as well as a brand-new closing track entitled “Wild Wild World.”
Their third album, Upside Down, was released in October 2016, accompanied by a Full Sail University release party. The project spawned the stand-out track “Hypnotized” as well as a few music videos.
Their fourth full-length project, Midnight, dropped much later at the beginning of February 2019. Through promotion and various singles, the album became their most commercially successful to date. The lead, “Killer in the Mirror,” was the biggest off the tracklist.
Like with Upside Down, Duality’s release was followed by an EP, After Midnight, a year later in 2020. It included three new tracks in a similar vein to the overarching project.
