About Sensational

Hip-hop artist Sensational (real name Colin Julius Bobb) was born in Guyana and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Some may recognize him as an affiliated member of the notable hip-hop group, Jungle Brothers. He’s musically best known for his unique hyperreal sound and lyrics.

Sensational grew up in a West Indian household where he was exposed to different forms of Latin/Caribbean music. He’s the nephew of calypso artist, Edgar Rose, who put out a single called, “Labor Day”. His inherent musical interest and diverse musical tastes and traditions is reflected in his eclectic musical style. He was intially interested in DJing, but his skills were less than impressive so he opted for the microphone instead. He adopted the rap name Torture and at the age of fifteen, he met Jungle Brothers member, Africa Baby Bam in his neighbourhood through a relative and mutual friend, Kennedy Bobb. The two began hanging out together; Africa Baby Bam eventually took him under his wing and mentored him. He made his debut in June 1993 on the Jungle Brothers album, J Beez wit the Remedy and made another guest appearance on “Troopin' on the Down Lo” a single off the Jungle Bros unreleased follow up album Crazy Wisdom Masters under Warner Bros imprint.

He decided to change his stage name to Sensational and released his experimental solo debut, Loaded with Power in 1997 with WordSound where he released an additional five more albums and other independent projects with Ipecac Recordings.
