A foundational figure in the genre of shock rock, Screaming Lord Sutch (often backed by his band, the Savages) was a sometime Joe Meek-produced singer and songwriter known for crafting some of the best horror themed novelty songs of the early 1960s.
His innovative approach to music, similar to that of Screamin' Jay Hawkins, was based on elaborate costumes (that of a well dressed lunatic in Sutch’s case), wild gesticulations, and lots of noise.
After exiting the music industry, leaving a trail of solid singles and one studio album, Sutch founded the Monster Raving Loony Party and ran for Parliament on that ticket for decades. He died in 1999.
