School is Cool is an indie rock band from Antwerp, Belgium. They hit national radio in 2010, and released their first album, Entropology, in 2011.
It’s a baroque collection of Arcade Fire-inspired anthems, ballads and punk brawlers, infused with string quartets, philosophical lyrics and a seemingly endless amount of drums. They played an equally endless amount of Belgian, Dutch, French, Swiss and British shows in the wake of their debut.
Their 2014 album, Nature Fear, took a sharp left turn: an eclectic collection of dark, Fever Ray-like songs, interspersed with some loud pop tracks. ‘Black Dog Panting’, the album opener, was received especially well.
2017 saw the release of their third and most mature album ‘Good News’. Inspired by a Trump-spoiled election eve party in 2016, it tackled some personal issues lyrically, and tackled personnel changes musically. Songs like ‘Trophy Wall’, ‘I’m Not Fine’ and others, produced by Luke Smith (Foals, Depeche Mode, Fryars) netted very positive reviews upon release.
Currently the band are working on a fourth album.
