​Take a neon-lit west end hipster with an affinity for Hawaiian shirts, combat boots and bourbon and combine it with a love of urban blues, R&B, acoustic rock and pop and you get Sam Drysdale.

He’s the kid next door we all know — the blue-eyed blonde who teaches himself ‘Wonderwall’ on the guitar so he can impress his high school friends. Graduation day comes and goes and then real life shows up. He gets his heart broken, discovers Hendrix, the blues, John Mayer and The Weeknd, and grows up in a hurry.​

​Guelph born and Toronto bred with Nashville and LA grooves, Sam Drysdale isn’t afraid to get raw and honest. With a voice thats both velvet and grit, his light-hearted and dark sides shine clearly throughout the 7 tracks on his upcoming debut EP, Vicelove.

Produced by Thomas “Tawgs” Salter (Lights, Walk Off The Earth, Scott Helman), as well as songwriting collaborators Nate Ferraro, Mike Sonier, Alexandra Soumalias and Ron Lopata, Vicelove is a contemporary pop EP anchored by Sam’s soulful emotive voice and EDM programming.

You can trace the evolution and devolution of Sam Drysdale’s last love affair on his new EP, out in the new year on Slaight Music/Warner Music Canada. The Toronto-based singer-guitarist has actually sequenced the songs so you can follow along.

“All seven songs are about the same girl, but they also cover the duality between my relationship with her and also with liquor,” Sam says candidly. “I couldn’t help notice the similarities. Love is supposed to be a drug. That’s why I chose the title of Vicelove. There’s a beautiful feeling about drinking and love that is equally dangerous. It’s always walking that tightrope."
