Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam (b. 4 June 1946, d. 25 September 2020), more commonly known as S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, S. P. B., or Balu, was an Indian singer-songwriter, musician, and film music director. He was born and raised in Andhra-Pradesh, India. He grew up in a Brahmin family, his primary language that he spoke being Telugu.
S. P. B. was known for his work for songs for movies in all types of Indian languages, such as Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu. He won tons of awards, such as the Guinness World Record for having an amassed impressive discography of over forty-two thousand songs. He recorded songs for many popular films, such as the August 2013 Indian hit film, Chennai Express.
On 25 September 2020, in Chennai, India, S. P. B. tragically passed away due to COVID-19 (coronavirus), which was an ongoing pandemic throughout most of 2020. After testing positive for the virus, he later tested negative, using a ventilator and the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support. He went into cardio-respiratory arrest after over a month-long hospitalization at the time of his passing.
