About Russkaja

Russkaja is a Russian Metal band from Vienna, Austria. The band’s sound, defined by themselves as “Russian Turbo Polka Metal”, is characterized by polka, ska and traditional Russian music. The band was founded in 2005 by former Stahlhammer vocalist Georgij Makazaria. Signed to the independent Austrian label Chat Chapeau since 2006, they later changed to Napalm Records.

On February 3rd, 2023, Russkaja announced on Instagram that they decided to quit with the band. The main reason for the band’s breakup was the ongoing war in Ukraine and how they couldn’t keep up with the satirical Russian image they have portrayed, quoting:

What was fun is nothing but bitter […] and the lyrics written have totally different meaning now.

The band and crew have also been targeted online a lot and will not risk anything happening to them on the road.

Turbo Polka Party will be the band’s third and last album and will function as a farewell gift to the fans.
